Knee arthrosis: treatment and symptoms

Arthrosis is a fairly common disease caused by metabolic disorders, trauma, or non-specific infectious arthritis. The disease causes deforming changes in the tissue of the joints and surrounding bone joints.

What is arthrosis?

knee arthrosis

Arthrosis is a fairly serious disease that affects the joints. With the disease, the damaged joints and surrounding bones thicken. During exercise, there is pain that gradually decreases at rest.

Arthrosis of the knee joint, the causes of which are quite different, does not cause an inflammatory process and therefore does not manifest itself in the form of edema and redness other than arthritis or polyarthritis.

It should be noted that many patients suffer from diseases - varicose veins and obesity.

Why does the disease appear?

Osteoarthritis is an unpredictable disease caused by:

  1. Overload
  2. Traumas
  3. Hereditary predisposition
  4. Obesity
  5. Flat legs

How is the disease defined?

Grade I osteoarthritis of the knee - the initial stage of the disease in which timely treatment is able to improve joint performance. In the initial stage, the movements become limited, and the areas of the joints begin to ossify. At this stage, it is almost impossible to detect osteoarthritis of the knee joint, the treatment of which is quite varied: X-ray examination shows no visible bone growth. The main signs are the sharpening of the joint edges and the narrowing of the gap between the joints that the doctor may notice during the examination. Further examination of joint ultrasound and MRI is prescribed to clarify the diagnosis.

Patients usually experience a brief tingling sensation in the joint and a crisp sound when moving. Painful feelings occur after rest and when walking wears off quickly. Such "onset" pain is manifested as a result of friction on the joints on which cartilage and bone destruction (detritus) settle.

In the initial stage, arthrosis does not cause significant discomfort, so patients do not pay attention to the symptoms that occur. Therefore, if the slightest suspicion of knee arthrosis occurs, treatment should be performed immediately.

Treat Arthrosis

how to treat knee arthrosis

Before you start fighting the disease, try to find a good doctor and make a joint treatment plan after the full examination. Don’t diagnose yourself alone, it can only make the situation worse. There are many similar diseases, so you can make a mistake in defining the disease without testing.

When diagnosing osteoarthritis of the knee, treatment is prescribed depending on the stage of the disease. In the initial stage, when the joint is still more or less preserved, it is recommended that drug therapy be performed with chondroprotective drugs. They are presented on a fairly wide scale today. Regardless of the choice, the drugs are taken for up to 6 months. It is recommended to repeat the treatment after six months. The duration of treatment is 3-5 years.

It should be noted that creams and ointments are not able to relieve the patient in arthrosis, but they can relieve pain. It is recommended that you use warming medications to improve blood circulation.

Patients with a confirmed diagnosis of knee arthrosis should only be prescribed by their doctor. They are encouraged to perform daily health exercises and adhere to a compiled diet. Do not try to overload the joints. This can negatively affect your health. After recovery, try to gradually increase the load and avoid pain.
